WORK:
BlackID.com
BlackID was Scotland's leading 'New Media' agency and competed UK and Worldwide
for clients. The clientlist included massive brands like MTV, Channel 4, VH1,
Homecorp and Burger King. The talent in the agency was amazing and I learned
so much from the people I worked with there.
I started off there as a designer but I was amazed by the flash work that co-workers
like limmy and hoss
were knocking out so I got them to teach me some of the basics - while looking
through loads of old cd's to build this portfolio part of the site I actually
found some of the tutorial files that limmy had set up for me to learn good
ol "tell target" in flash.
As I got better in Flash I got involved in updating the flash sites that already
existed, building animations, animated concepts for pitches and building sites.
Greenparka.com
My current workplace www.greenparka.com.
When I left BlackID myself and a co-worker from there were asked by Graphic
Partners if we wanted to join and help build up a new media division of
the company. Previously the company had been outsourcing all the web work to
other companies and the designers they had at the time were purely 'print designers'.
They wanted to get some designers in that specialised in web work.
I've been there for a good few years now and we've built the company up to one
of the best new media companies in Scotland (in my own unbiased opinion of course).
We are a small company within a larger mother company. Our clientlist and portfolio
speaks for itself in terms of the quality of the work we do and the client services
we provide.
OTHER:
Longlunch
A few years back, myself and a few others set up Longlunch.
We wanted to start something that brought the Scottish Design Community together
in a positive way. We organised seminars and talks in both Edinburgh and Glasgow,
bringing huge names in the design industry like The Designers Republic, Mickey
Stretton, Nicolas Roope, Airside and Why Not Associates to name but a few.
Late 2004 I hung up my lunchbox as I couldnt dedicate as much time as was needed
around the time of each event to organise it as my day job demanded too much
attention.
ABOUT THE MUSIC:
The music that is on this site is a collection of tunes ive done over the past
few years. Some of it is very laid back triphop kind of stuff with a heavy influence
coming from the likes of DJ Shadow and Mr Scruff and other tunes have a bit
more dancey edge - but a style of dance music from back in the late 80s/early
90s - in my opinion that's when dance music was at its most pioneering and exciting.
I started playing bass guitar when I was 16, when I was at art college I was
in an indie band playing the bass and thats when I took up playing guitar. We
all eventually went our seperate ways and I continued making music using Cubase
on my PC.
More recently I have started using Ableton Live to make music, it's an amazing
program. Instrument-wise on the tunes its a mix of me playing the guitar, bass,
roland 303 groovebox, microKorg and a whole host of Korg and Moog style VST
synth plugins, drum programming and sampling.
While on the 'sampling' note, i'd like to state that if any labels or artists
are not happy with me having sampled their songs and having them available to
listen to on this site, get in touch and let me know and i'll take them down.
I would like to stress that these songs are not available to download from this
site and I have not made any money from any of this music. That goes for the
mixes too.
The mixes that are in the Mashed Potato section of the site were a couple of
soul&funk mixes that I submitted as an entry to get myself through to the
heats of a Vestax dj competition. Although I have a very eclectic taste in music,
my main love is with soul and funk.
